Encouragement is like water to a thirsty soul.
Ever been dehydrated? It’s a terrible place to be. It is a dangerous place to be as well.
Many of you know that I run and may be surprised to discover that I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation last year. It is a heart condition where the beats are irregular. Sometimes that happens with people who run long distances. I am one of those people. After some investigation on the internet, I have concluded that the main reason I had a fluttering heart (besides the times my wife holds my hand) is that I failed to hydrate adequately before I ran. I remember regularly getting up early in the morning, drinking a few sips of apple juice or Gatorade, and then hitting the road for several miles. Dehydration is a cause of atrial fib.
People can get dehydrated in their spirit. That’s a dangerous place to be too. Physical dehydration means you are tired and ready to give up. You’ve exhausted the fluids in your body. You can become delirious. It negatively affects your heart. It can lead to death. Those symptoms sound like discouragement to me. That’s when your soul is drained of its nutrients and fluids. You want to quit. You think things that aren’t true. It negatively affects your heart. It can lead to death.
That’s why we need corner people. And that’s why we need to be corner people. Give courage to others today. Refresh souls.
So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind.
