Many people cannot see GOD’S goodness today. The death of a child, the loss of your health and the trauma of violence are all moments when pain has the power to blind people to the goodness of GOD. Unfortunately, these kinds of moments happen many times each day around the world. Perhaps you are a friend to someone for whom life has been traumatic. They can’t see His goodness. What do you do?
Express a great compassion.
• Walk with them in their darkness.
• Be silent and listen.
• Serve them.
• Pray their disappointments for them.
• Don’t defend GOD.
You being there is a comforting assurance and a healing balm. They know they are not alone. Your presence is a reminder that GOD has not forsaken them. You don’t have to explain anything because it is likely GOD won’t explain anything either.
“When Job’s three friends . . . heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.”
– Job 3:11, 13
